Week 4This week we will continue to learn about methods of addressing cyber bullies (4-6 version) & maintaining your personal information (4-6 version) when using the internet. We will create a class list of internet safety rules. Today you will use Padlet to work together in answering questions which will assess your understanding of today's topics.

Add-onThis week you will be learning about the best methods to becoming a great typist. You will start by taking a typing test so that we can track your progress. We will save your test results in your folder. You will also begin your typing lessons here in Dance Mat Typing. The Dance Mat Typing program is fun and you should practice at home to get better and better.

Second Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Today I will introduce Lego Wedo Robotics. You will collaborate with a partner to engineer robots using parts that you will soon learn more about in third grade science.

week 2Students will begin to construct builds and program using the Lego WeDo Kits and

Week 4We have disassembled our alligators to begin building the lions. This week we will start by reviewing the Lego Lion flip chart and discuss partner collaboration expectations. I must warn you that this build is created with DETAILS in mind. You must closely look at each picture to ensure that you have the right parts. Also, do not try to manually move the lion because he's delicate and parts can easily break off. We will discuss components used to create this build.
Next week.... programming our lions. The lions are programmed in a unique and different way. You will enjoy the creativity needed in making him work. |
Third Six Weeks
Week 1Today we will begin by reviewing word processing components, programs, and vocabulary using a flipchart. I will model how to edit using Microsoft Word via the interactive tutorial in the link below. You will complete an instructional video tutorial to practice editing a document in Microsoft Word.

World wide event!4. Students around the world will be participating in an event called the Hour of Code. In our time together you will learn how sites, games, and digital content that you love came to be. We will create "code" or direct messages to our computers instructing what we like to see on the computer. Whether you want a character to skip and jump, or a game to be played by using the arrow keys or letters is completely up to your direction and "coding". Let the fun begin! Week 2This week you will be creating an account on Edmodo. Edmodo is a website that offers a safe way for us to connect, work together, share materials, assignments, and the ability to save files and documents. It's free and you can access the site via apps, PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, iPods, any device really!
This week I will share a Prezi presentation with you on the rules and guidelines for correct and safe use of Edmodo. We will discuss unacceptable behavior as well. You will read and agree to follow the students agreement terms given in an Edmodo post created by me. I truly look forward to us using this as an excellent learning and collaboration tool! Let's use it wisely. |

When you are finished you may play any of the games if you have completed last week's Microsoft Word assignment. If you have not completed or finished adding graphics to your document please finish and save the document in your folder once complete. Afterwards, you may go to free choice. |
Week 5I am certain that all you have made or seen a PB & J sandwich being deliciously put together. Today you will create a Microsoft Word document describing (sequencing) how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I will model how to insert bullets, graphics (clip art), a heading, and a list of steps in addition to saving the file in their file folder on the desktop. Prior to the task we will review inserting, highlighting, formatting text, and text alignment.

Week 6Today we will use Microsoft Word to create a questionairre for your classmates. I will model for you how to format your page, adjust line spacing, use the tab key, spell check, insert tables, adjust margins, and view a print preview to see what the document looks like upon completion. Once you complete the document you will save it in your folder.

myOn & Google ClassroomYou have learned how to access your Google Classroom accounts. Soon, you will be receiving assignments, updates, and school information from Mr. Avery, Coach Myers, myself, and your teachers within your accounts. Today I will show yoy how to join each class. At home you can access your accounts by going to classroom.google.com.
Afterwards, you will login to myOn which we used last year for digital online reading. You will complete a Lexile reading assessment if required. You may then access your library to save books to read for later, read, and take assessments. Attempt to increase the amount of time that you spend on myON. It is a resource that will be available throughout the remainder of the year on various platforms (Android, iPad, Chromebooks, and computers). Directions for assignment: HERE |
Fourth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1This week I will introduce spreadsheets and how they methods they can be used to create organized documents in Microsoft Excel. You will be introduced to the basic functions of spreadsheets as well as vocabulary. We will discuss ways to format a spreadsheet to make it unique to its purpose by formatting cells, font, cells, and rows. I will model for this for you. You will complete the interactive spreadsheet lesson independently. Once complete you will begin to make a basic graph of the number of the following items that you THINK you own at home.

Week 2 Today we are going to review spreadsheets by completing a quick overview of our spreadsheets flipchart and vocabulary terms.
Afterwards you will use data complete a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. I have attached a spreadsheet for you to download below. I will show you an example of what your spreadsheet should like like and how to input information from the data provided for you. When complete you will save your assignments in Google Drive. Week 3This week you will learn how to make a picture in as spreadsheet. I will review vocabulary: cell, row, column, and table. I will model how to use the fill bucket to color in the cells. I will give you a list of cells to color in and the colors for each. You will color each cell with the paint bucket to make a picture of a penguin. Once complete you will have the opportunity to walk around the room to see others spreadsheet pictures.

Week 4Collaboration is the key to everything! If I need help I never shy away from asking others. Sometimes I collaborate with others to make a difficult task much easier.
Today you will collaborate using Google Drive. Google has many collaborative tools, which I will introduce further in the near future. However, for today you will use a spreadsheet in which you and your group will input data from the resource below. Week 5Where is Harry? Harry is lost! Use the spreadsheet embedded below to find Harry's location. I will need to see your work prior to saving your document. I will model how you can access the directions and input data into your spreadsheet simultaneously by toggling or maintaining multiple windows at a time on your desktop.

Week 6This week you will input the data into your spreadsheet. I have attached a spreadsheet with directions requiring you to input into the named cell. Once complete you will create a pie, bar, or line graph from your data. Save your document into your folder once finished.

Fifth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1Over the following weeks we will be discussing Digital Citizenship and cyber safety. We will begin by reviewing standards of digital citizenship using the following Prezi. After our whole group discussion you will work together in groups to make a "digital poster" of what being a DIGITAL CITIZEN means to you. You will use Flock Draw and I will tell you which group to join.

Today you will use online resources to gather information about historical figures. We will be learning how to use online research sources and verify reliability of information. You will use the research tools to answer 5 questions about the subject of your choosing.

Week 4This week you will use Tween Tribune to read and learn about current events. This site allows you to communicate your opinions by commenting on each article. You will also be able to validate the sources of information to ensure that articles are based upon facts, not opinions.
Today you will read and comment on three articles of your choosing and take the daily quiz on the side bar. The daily quiz contains questions over a mixture of articles, however you can click the link above each question to find the answer within an article. Do Not Guess! I will give each of you a username and password so that you and I can track your progress and comments on quizzes and articles. Week 5Storybird is a web application that allows you to collaborate with classmates on stories and poems. An excellent feature of storybird is that illustrators have given collections of artwork which make it capable for you to complete an entire story based upon illustrations that you see.
After completing your story you can read published stories from classmates and work with them to add onto or edit their stories if they invite you. I will model for you how to login to your class account and get started. Sixth Six Weeks Lessons
Week 1
This six weeks I will review/introduce Microsoft Power Point presentation software and its features.
I will illustrate its uses by showing you presentation that I have created. You will learn how to use toolbar functions and menus to create your own Power Point which will include slides, text, clip art, transitions, and animations. Today you will also have the opportunity to use these features prior to your assignment next week. My Example: A Day in the Life (my daily routine PPT) |
Week 2Today you will be creating a Power Point Presentation about zoo animals. You will use the linked SAN DIEGO ZOO WEBSITE in order to find four animals to research. Once you choose your four animals you will write 3 facts about each animal on every slide. Afterwards, insert clip art, edit, add transitions, and animations to make your presentation complete. I will model how to complete the assignment.
